Moushumi Bhowmik has been working as a singer, writer and music researcher for over fifteen years. She is based in Kolkata but her work is spread over eastern India, Bangladesh and the UK, where she has been doing both field work and lecturing and writing on her research. A two-time grantee of the India Foundation for the Arts, Moushumi has also received support from the British Library’s WTM section, the Charles Wallace India Trust and Ford Foundation. As a singer-songwriter, Moushumi performs at home and abroad. She has recorded with HMV and Times Music, besides being the vocalist of the Anglo-Bengali band ‘Parapar’ (www.parapar.co.uk). She has also composed and sung for award-winning feature films and documentaries in Bangladesh and India.
Sukanta Majumdar is a Kolkata-based audiographer who has worked on many national and international features and documentaries. He teaches sound and also works as an independent sound-artist. He received the Charles Wallace India Trust grant in 2010 to work as a visiting fellow at the London College of Communication's research centre, CRiSAP (Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice, http://www.crisap.org/), where he taught and presented his sound installation. Sukanta’s main areas of interest are music and ambient sound and he has been Moushumi’s partner in this research project on folk music from its inception.
